We recognize and commend the following individuals and organizations for their commitment to religious education and dialogue as a way to bring about mutual understanding and peace among the people of the world.

• ReligiousTolerance.org: Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance

  This organization believes that the study of the world’s religions leads to understanding which then leads to dialogue which then leads to peace. I couldn’t agree with them more.

  Their site contains a vast library of informative articles regarding different religions as well as various issues, topics, and themes that arise in many religious discussions.

• Irshad Manji & Project Ijtihad

  In the early centuries of Muslim civilizations, Muslims of that time held an open outlook regarding how their faith could be interpreted by individual effort (ijtihad). During this time, these civilizations underwent a scientific, artistic, philosophical, and poetic renaissance so that their contributions to world culture was staggering.

  Rumi, the 12th century Muslim poet and spiritual teacher that many people outside the Muslim world have fallen in love with, is just one rose in a vast garden the world has hardly even begun to explore.

  But at certain moments in history some Muslim leaders felt their traditions were being threatened and so closed the gates of that open outlook and narrowed the set of possible interpretations to a select handful.

  Irshad Manji is working to open those gates once again.
